SMDO-2512: Software Engineer I

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Job Description:
Position requires an entry-level or junior software engineer with experience in software development to support the modeling and simulation of missile defense systems. Candidate will design, develop, test, document and integrate simulation products for the Missile Defense Space Warning Tool (MDST) using C++, C and FORTRAN programming languages on Linux operating systems. Main responsibilities include designing and developing software to model various systems (including DSP, SBIRS, STSS, and JTAGS) to accurately represent capabilities of the spaced-based detection and reporting of ballistic missiles. Additional responsibilities could include interfacing with MDST customers and presenting technical briefings to MDST stakeholders.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required Skills:
Have 1 to 2 years experience in all phases of software development including requirements analysis, design, code, test and integration. Must be able to create and document Object Oriented designs in the UML and implement those designs in a Unix/Linux development environment using C++ or Java. Must be able to design & develop in C++, have an understanding of object oriented software development, and have a basic understanding of UNIX and Linux. Candidate must be able to work in a team environment and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. A DoD Secret clearance, or the ability to obtain one, is required.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge/experience in several of the following: missile defense domain knowledge, spaced-based sensor systems, modeling and simulation development, discrete event modeling, UNIX and Linux platforms, or CMMI.
Experience with MySQL and relational database design is preferred. Basic knowledge of the Linux operating system. The ability to develop or maintain Java code, GNU Makefiles, and shell-scripts is also desirable.
Education and experience:
Require a BS in Computer Science or related field. 1 to 2 years experience in C++, Java, and UNIX and/or Linux.
